The characteristic feature of the First Sergeant insignia is indeed a diamond shape. This insignia signifies the unique position and authority of a First Sergeant within the Air Force. The diamond shape distinguishes them from other enlisted ranks, reflecting their leadership role and responsibility for the welfare of the airmen in their unit. This visual element is significant, as it conveys a sense of distinction and is easily identifiable, making it clear that the individual holding this insignia has specialized duties and authority in the supervision and training of personnel.

The other shapes mentioned do not represent the First Sergeant insignia and are instead associated with different ranks or roles within the military structure. The use of the diamond for the First Sergeant reinforces the importance of this position in promoting morale and discipline in the unit. Understanding this insignia helps reinforce the hierarchy and roles within the Air Force, which is crucial for cadets as they move forward in their training and careers.
